Engine Management Programme

EMP guidelines and recommended practices for engine maintenance

Purpose & Objective

The Engine Management Programme (EMP) defines cost-effective On-Wing Maintenance and In-Shop Work Packages to minimise service disruption, maintain optimum levels of reliability and performance, and improve operating cost.

Rolls-Royce monitors engines worldwide to ensure that all significant service experience is considered when developing the EMP.

Advisory, Non-Executive Document

  • The EMP is an advisory document and should be used together with the relevant executive technical documents to maintain the airworthiness of an engine. It does not define covered parts or covered services under the TotalCare Contract.
  • As an advisory, non-executive document, the customer is responsible for obtaining approval of its engine management processes from its airworthiness authority.

Published on the Rolls-Royce Portal under "Technical Documents", the Generic EMP is applicable to all operators of the specified engine type. It provides the baseline management programme in line with the objectives above.

It applies in-shop to serviceability, check & repair, refurbishment and overhaul shop visits, as well as on-line / near-wing maintenance activities.

The Generic EMP is updated periodically. Updates may be subject to ballot, giving operators the opportunity to provide feedback on any changes.

Important Notes

  • Rolls-Royce may decide to ballot an amendment to the Generic EMP as a result of the customer's request. Should this be accepted by other operators, the Generic EMP and Customer EMP will be amended to remove duplication. Changes will be on a CEMP requirement basis.
  • In the event that the Customer EMP is not agreed, the workscope will reflect the instructions as stated in the applicable EMP (Generic or previous Customer EMP, as per the relevant contract) and be mutually agreed on a case-by-case basis.
  • The intent of the REMPR process is not to extend the scope of Covered Services under the TotalCare Agreement (TCA). Any additional work must be agreed with the Commercial and Account Management teams.

Fleet Management

The EMP supports fleet management by providing:

  • Standardised maintenance guidelines for the engine fleet
  • In-shop work package specifications
  • A structured change process ensuring both parties agree on maintenance approaches
