Training Overview
Rolls-Royce delivers instructor-led On-Wing Customer Training to around 200 active Rolls-Royce airline customers worldwide, educating customer employees on current service operations, maintenance practices and trouble-shooting procedures. Courses are held mainly at the Rolls-Royce Derby and Singapore facilities, using a range of media to deliver course material.
Standard courses can be booked by email via the Customer Training front-of-house inbox. Rolls-Royce will work with customers to meet their requirements and will deliver such training subject to availability and the suitability of Rolls-Royce personnel and resource.
Engine Coverage
Instructor-led On-Wing Customer Training is delivered for the following engine types:
Four Main Course Types
Borescope Inspection
Basic 2 days · Advanced 4 days
Basic and Advanced levels. Basic is engine-type specific; both include a representative practical element.
Hands-on borescope (BSI) inspection technique with access to a relevant engine asset.
General Familiarisation
2 days
Engine overview — a theory-focused introduction to the engine.
The only course with no practical element and no engine-asset access.
Line & Base Maintenance
8 days
Examined with a pass mark of 75%.
CAA / GCAA Part 147 accredited certification for attendees achieving the required result.
CAA / GCAA Part 147 Accredited
Trent XWB Engine Separation
8 days · VR Refresher 5 days
Specialist engine separation training for the Trent XWB.
Includes a representative practical element with engine-asset access; a VR-based refresher is also available.
Key Details
- All courses EXCEPT General Familiarisation have a representative practical element — General Familiarisation is theory-only
- All courses (except General Familiarisation) have access to a relevant engine asset
- Students gain a certificate upon course completion (exam dependent for Line & Base)
- A range of media are used to deliver course material
- For Line and Base Maintenance courses that include formal examinations, Rolls-Royce will provide attendees who achieve the required result with a CAA / GCAA Part 147 accredited certificate
- Customers must come with all necessary safety gear including PPE and safety shoes
- Course slots are limited — contact the Customer Training team for current availability
- Courses are delivered in English — a good level of English language proficiency is strongly recommended for successful completion

Course dates and seat availability change frequently. Rather than publish a schedule that quickly goes out of date, please contact the Customer Training team directly for the current course calendar and to check availability for your chosen engine type and location.

A few requirements apply to every course. Full details — including travel, accommodation, billing and the cancellation policy — are set out in the booking documents.
- Passport or photo ID is mandatory for daily site access — without it you cannot be admitted on site
- Safety shoes are MANDATORY (conforming to ES 20345:2022 or equivalent — 200J toe protection, slip-resistant, mid-sole protection). Without them a 'theory only' certificate is issued for the Line & Base Maintenance course
- Bring coveralls or appropriate clothing for the workshop environment
- Course times (GMT): Monday–Thursday 09:00–16:15, Friday 09:00–15:00 (with breaks and lunch)
- All Rolls-Royce facilities are strictly no-smoking / no-vaping
Booking Requirements
- Requests for training should be made at least 30 days in advance to secure a place
- Pre-requisites for the course must be met — check these carefully before enrolling
- Complete the relevant booking form (Derby or Singapore) in full — enrolment cannot proceed without the billing section completed
- Necessary equipment and course material will be provided by Rolls-Royce for all training courses carried out at the Rolls-Royce training facility

- Line & Base: exam required (75% pass mark)
- CAA / GCAA Part 147 accredited
- UKCAA Part 147 certificate issued for qualifying Line & Base results
Cancellation Policy
- More than 30 days before start — no charge / full refund
- 15–30 days before start — 50% charge per student
- 14 days or less before start — 100% charge per student
If Rolls-Royce cancels at less than 30 days' notice, the full course value is refunded and attendees are rebooked on the next convenient date.
